As a Regular Member of the RCMP, you will:
- Serve three or more years in general duty policing; in which a typical day would include some or all of the following in any city or town in Canada:
General duties policing will allow you to experience a broad range of assignments and experiences, such as
- Responding to alarms
- Foot patrol
- Bicycle patrol
- Traffic enforcement
- Testifying in court
- Collecting evidence at crime scenes
- Apprehending criminals and arresting criminals
- Plain clothes duties.
Officers should expect to work shifts, including nights, evenings, weekends and holidays as policing takes place 24 hours per day.
After General Duties are completed, RCMP officers will be able to explore over 150 jobs within the police force.

- Major crime investigations
- Forensic identification
- International peacekeeping
- Emergency response
- Marine patrol
- Explosives disposal; and Police dog services.
